#SpotlightSaturday: Jhené Aiko

hello, everyone and welcome to the #SpotlightSaturday series, where we shine the spotlight on various artists who have or are gaining prominence not just in music, but in all creative arts.

and what a better way to start this series than to shine our spotlight on a well-known artist who has made her mark on the music industry, but sometimes is still overlooked by many (at least, to me!)

Jhené Aiko Efuru Chilombo is an American singer, songwriter who became known for appearing in music videos for R&B group B2K. She was known as B2K member Lil' Fizz's "cousin", though she is not actually related to him. This was a way to promote publicity for her.

Her music career sprouted up with the release of her famous single, "The Worst"

However, our personal favourite album is definitely Trip, which was released in 2017, with hit songs such as Sativa which has over 90 million views on YouTube.

But what made that album so special was the raw emotion that she portrayed in the album, with songs such as Ascension, While We're Young (which is our personal fav!), and Jukai.

the album was raw, emotional and really used the combination of sounds, vocals and carefully chosen words to speak to the listener and identify with her feelings.

but, we are currently in love with her third studio album, Chilombo and the deluxe version.

for us, it as a transition from the sad, downcast woman who lost her brother to cancer and was depressed, to the confident, bad b Jhené, that we all know and love.
